Before he became king, David was chased across the countryside by a jealous King Saul, who tried to kill him six or seven times. He hid out in caves, on mountains, and even lived with his mortal enemies the Philistines for a time. During this 5-7 year period of running for his life, David experienced overwhelming anxiety.
